  • NAMI Northern Virginia's mission is to serve the community through mental health education, support and advocacy. Their vision is a world where everyone affected by a mental health condition has a place to turn for help, hope and support. 
  •  Local programs benefit the 1 in 5 Northern Virginians living with mental health conditions by providing them with peer support and recovery skills education--at no cost to participants.
  • Through programs and active partnerships with local agencies and organizations, NAMI Northern Virginia is growing support for individuals living with a mental health condition, family members and the community.

Committee for Helping Others (CHO)

The Committee for Helping Others (CHO) is an all-volunteer organization that was organized in 1969 by a group of concerned churches and individuals in the Vienna, Oakton, Dunn Loring, and Merrifield areas to provide simple, loving charity to those in need of goods and services they were unable to provide for themselves, or obtain from government social service organizations. CHO has NO paid staff members. Everyone who works for CHO is a volunteer. They provides the following services:


  • Emergency Financial Assistance
  • Emergency Food Aid
  • Clothing
  • Furniture
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Transportation

Bringing Resources to Aid Women’s Shelters (BRAWS)

  • Shelter Delivery & Distribution - BRAWS delivers & distributes approximately 500 boxes of pads/tampons & 100 NEW bras to local shelters each MONTH.
  • School Delivery - BRAWS delivers approximately 250 boxes of pads and tampons each month to girls in local schools who cannot afford menstrual supplies to attend classes. BRAWS also purchases underwear and bras for school-age girls who do not have access to these items. 
  • PTA/PTSA Partnership - BRAWS delivers about 200 pads and tampons each month to local PTA/PTSA programs. These programs are where students in need can discreetly shop for nonperishable food and personal hygiene items.
